china

finally got back from my trip to visit my grand dad. at first i was kinda dreading the trip cos its a village and there is no plumbing which means no shower, no toilets. but once i got there time jus seemed to fly past and 10 days passed as swift as 2 days. in fact, that was a shop that provided showers.

after watching tonnes of top gear, i'm pretty into driving. and driving along the mountain roads in china is really a joy. despite the really badly maintained concrete roads (they were dirt tracks a few years ago), it was fantastic. the scenery, fresh air, the sun, and occasional smell of cow/horse dung along the road. heaven. next time back, its gonna be a no-plane/train and all driving trip. gonna rent a real good off roader like a land rover have a hell of a driving experience.

at my grand dad's village, things are changing. dirt tracks gave way to concrete roads. horses and cows are replaced by tractors. women cook with LPG stoves instead of the traditional fire wood. ppl are getting computers, bikes, big cable tvs, high heels, and make up. the ppl in the village may be loving it. but i feel kinda sad that the good old stuff are gone. i used to really really dig the village stuff. like the whole out field kinda thing. a very nice change to city life. no internet, no wadever blah blah. but now things are changing so fast in the villages in china nowadays. i feel kinda sad.

i went to the LAN shop (the only one) in the village. saw addicted kids playing CS (still... and not even the steam version, imagine how old). owned them even with my skills for a couple of rounds. considering how much time they spend playing CS, the china dudes are seriously shit and computer games. so many ppl addicted to gaming and we dun see them even getting close to beating the koreans. anyways. i was thinking i might as well use some of the time there to get back on my facebook poker since i lost 3m a couple of hours before i flew. and guess wad, facebook is banned in china. for wadever reasons i dun give a shit. blogspot is banned too. so is livejournal and all foreign blog sites. wth is going on in china.

i was having a chat with my cousin. he said that there are more than 200k paid in the world. 2/3 are from china. wadever airport road, wad random bridge all must pay to use. i jokingly said that the other 1/3 is in singapore. be it ECP or CTE ofrAYE or CBD all must pay. lol.

i had a tonnes of peaches in china. everyday just eat peach... and watermelons cos they are so damn cheap. if you have eaten fruits in america, or china, or most places that grow fruits locally, u would know that fruits (and vegetables) in singapore are crap. totally tasteless cardboard rubbish.

beer is dirt cheap in china. the village i was in. even more so. beers are going for 2 rmb per bottle (610ml). that goes to less than 50 cents per bottle. more than 10 times cheaper than singapore. thus ppl in china drink beer like water. and its probably cleaner too.

if smoking increases your chances of lung cancer by 5times. going to china increases the chances of me getting lung cancer by around 3.5 times. every freaking person smokes in china. omg. no wonder you dun see the sun in beijing. cos of all the cigarette smoke. the most efficient way to carry out genocide in china is to destroy all the cigarette factories.

oh and one more thing. the chinese is insanely nationalistic. or maybe its just one of my cousins. cos he thinks that china is the most powerful country militarily in the world. talking to him abt world politics is like talking to mao ze dong or something. he insists that china can destroy japan, taiwan, south east asia, north korea all at once with the press of a button. and US will not do anything cos china is too powerful. right.......... apparently he does not know abt the US destroyers in japan with the latest ageis anti air/missle defence system. but then again. doubt anyone outside the military knows that either.

anyways. the trip was no where near as bad as i thought it might be. so 10 days, 50 bottles of beer and 800 2nd hand cigarettes later, i'm back at this tiny humid little island, in front of the computer and writing this post.

end
